Holiday Posters (中1)

In junior high school grade one (中1) we have just finished learning about holidays and how to
talk about decorations and celebrations. Some of the holidays are those celebrated outside of
Japan, like Halloween, Thanksgiving, or Christmas. However, others, like New Year’s Day, are
celebrated in Japan as well.

The students worked in groups to make posters about their holidays. For the first class, we used
dictionaries and the internet to do research on their holiday. In the second class, we practiced
writing out the information we had found. Then we spent one more class making and
decorating posters with their groups.

After everything was finished, the students gave short presentations explaining their holidays.
Some chose to focus on how the holiday is celebrated in Japan while others chose to focus on
celebrations abroad. In the end, the students were able to learn a little bit about different
holidays from their classmates and practice presenting their new English vocabulary creatively
through drawings and presentations.
